Establishment of the "VR/Metaverse Practice" Research Division at the Virtual Reality Education and Research Center

The Virtual Reality Education and Research Center of the University of Tokyo has established the "VR/Metaverse Practice" Research Division as of February 1, 2023, with a three-year plan. The purpose of this division is to conduct basic research on the creation and operation of communication spaces (metaverse spaces) created using VR deployed on networks, as well as to conduct interdisciplinary research on various issues necessary when this technology is implemented in society.

Through these studies, we expect to systematize the information technology needed to make the metaverse an effective activity space, contribute to the creation of a new society, and develop an area of fusion of the humanities and sciences on an even larger scale than conventional VR.
